Ben Taylor | Principal Costs Consultant at Fytche-Taylor
Ben has spent over 17 years working in the ‘pre-construction’ phase of the construction industry for Main Contractors in the Lincolnshire region.
Starting as an Assistant Estimator and following numerous successful projects across a wide range of sectors and completion of a HNC in construction and the built environment Ben progressed to senior estimator then estimating manager where he oversaw tender submissions for a £150m+ turnover Main-contractor for a period of 8 years. During this time Ben has gained valuable experience in:
- Tender appraisals
- Completing/reviewing budget cost plans / feasibility studies / bills of quantities
- Managing the ‘pre-construction’ phase – identifying and mitigating areas of risk and identifying potential cost savings
Ben’s experience and knowledge gained from working for main contractors will be vitally important when representing clients; knowing the details of how main contractors work to maximise profits and minimise risk means as a client you will have inside knowledge on how to successfully navigate the construction process.
Ben has also recently completed his own self build family home, putting into practice the skills learned in his construction career and co-founded Build Manager Ltd to help more people self-build their own home (and yes it was within budget!).
We understand as a client it can be very difficult to establish sensible projected build costs without expending large sums of money on site investigations and detailed designs.
