Local Plan Review - Submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for examination

The council submitted the Bassetlaw Local Plan 2020-2038: Publication Version, Publication Version Addendum and Publication Version Second Addendum to the Secretary of State on 18 July 2022 for independent examination, in line with the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 (2) - Regulation 22.  Further consultations have taken place - more below.

The Council's website shows a delay is expected to the adoption of the new plan:

"Bassetlaw District Council consulted upon the Bassetlaw Local Plan 2020-2037: Publication Version, between 2 September 2021 and 21 October 2021 and the Bassetlaw Local Plan 2020-2038: Publication Version Addendum between January 6 2022 and 17 February 2022. It was anticipated that the Publication Version alongside the Addendum Version of the Local Plan would be the version of the plan that would be submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination. However, due to one of the two landowners unexpectedly withdrawing their site from the proposed Garden Village development shortly before submission, it is considered that a Regulation 19 Second Addendum is necessary to address consequential changes and to provide focussed changes in response to updated evidence prior to submitting the plan to the Independent Planning Inspectorate".

Earlier Stages:

  • Bassetlaw District Council consulted upon the Bassetlaw Local Plan 2020-2037: Publication Version, between 2 September 2021 and 21 October 2021.
  • A second consultation, on the Bassetlaw Local Plan 2020-2037: Publication Version Addendum between 6 January 2022 and 17 February 2022.
  • And a third consultation on the Bassetlaw Local Plan 2020-2038: Publication Version Second Addendum was necessary due to one of the two landowners unexpectedly withdrawing their site from the proposed Garden Village development shortly before submission. The consultation was held to address changes resulting to the Local Plan and related submission documents and evidence base. This consultation commenced on the 10 May and closed on the 21 June 2022.

The new draft plan extends to over 200 pages and includes new policies that will affect all landowners and developers in Bassetlaw, including the requirement for more energy efficient homes and on-site renewable power generation for all housing developments.

What are Local Plans?  If you have never heard of them before, then in short these are the plans that are used to make decisions on where new houses, shops, roads and a range of employment sites will go in future, as well as setting a broad range of other targets and controls that will directly affect how an area can change and grow.  If you've ever played Sim City, then it's a bit like that, but the real-life version!  The planning system involves making decisions about the future of our cities, towns and countryside. This is vital to balance our desire to develop the areas where we live and work with ensuring the surrounding environment isn't negatively affected for everyone. It includes considering the sustainable needs of future communities.  A handy guide offering more information is available here
